Born of Empire by Sally Ann Melia introduces a compelling tale in which two destinies intersect. Prince Teodor, heir to Earth and the twelve planets of the Dodecahedral, has been kept from the public eye. The terrifying Battle Borgs of Dome kidnap him just two days before his sixteenth birthday. Guy Erma is an unregistered Domeside orphan raised in the attics of House Jewel on Old Fleet Street. He is a blades champion with the dream to wear the black and gold of the Dome Militant. After the kidnapping of the prince, a heart-pounding race across sewers, palaces, and star systems begins as Regent Sayginn bargains for her son's life, and a chilling anonymous blood test hints at a “lost prince.” Guy knows the truth about what happened to Teodor, but silence could cost him everything.

Sally Ann Melia crafts characters with intriguing backstories, and while the young Prince Teodor captures interest through his ordeals, Guy is the character who drives the suspense. You keep asking questions about his identity, what he knows, and whether he'll ever say it. Through these characters, the author examines identity, belonging, and the inequality of equal men. The world brims with unique features, such as Cy-sects that kill planets, the poison-filled Dome medallions, the cy-wolves, and a Dodecahedron Dome that's equal parts fashion capital, military barracks, and a gilded cage. Born of Empire is fast-paced, moving between viewpoints, dreamlike interludes, and diplomatic letters, with cliffhangers that keep you turning the pages. The use of telepathy and raw emotion in this couture-dressed thriller makes the story resonant and utterly irresistible.
